Potential Site : Independence Grove
The Independence Grove Site
Centered around a 129-acre lake, Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreation and nature education. Surrounding prairie and woodlands provide a picturesque backdrop for walking, cycling, picnicking, fishing, concerts, a playground, volleyball and other fun activities. When conditions allow, ice skating and ice fishing are available in designated areas of the preserve.
During spring, birds stop at Independence Grove to rest and feed during their long journey to nesting grounds as far north as the Arctic. Watch the trees along the Des Plaines River Greenway corridor for many colorful species of warblers.
The 1,151-acre preserve’s rolling prairies, open fields and woodlands offer the perfect environment for a variety of wildlife such as owls, muskrats, beavers, minks, raccoons, opossums and deer.
